So you bought yourself a Roku TV and wanted to stream something on it from your iPhone.
But, there’s a catch.
iPhone screen mirroring on TV isn’t that simple without an Apple TV.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Apple and Apple products as much as the next guy, but Apple’s compatibility with non-Apple products has always been poor.
It’s something that we just have to deal with. What you need is a workaround.
What is Roku Screen Mirroring?
Roku screen mirroring simply means sharing your iPhone/iPad device screen onto your Roku TV. The setup doesn’t need any wires or cables, however, you have to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Remember that, both your iPhone/iPad and the Roku TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
When you mirror iPhone to Roku, all you’re really doing is duplicating your screen on the TV or projector.
This is a useful way to stream photos, videos, music, apps, and games on your TV from your iOS devices.
How To Mirror iPhone to Roku
So let’s dive right in. Here’s what you need to mirror iPhone to Roku.
Firstly, you need to have these devices with you in order for it to work.

iPhone or iPad
5 Easy Steps To Mirror iPhone To Roku
With these 5 simple & easy steps, you can mirror photos, videos and music from iPhone to Roku.
1. Download the Mirror for Roku App
Head over to the Apple App Store and download this app for Roku screen mirroring by iStreamer. Its free to download and the Pro version even lets you mirror your iPhone to Roku with sound!
2. Connect the App to Your TV
Connecting to your TV is simple. Just make sure both devices are on the same network and your TV should appear in the list of available devices in the app. Tap to connect to it.
Alternatively, you can connect to TV by entering your Roku TVs IP.
3. Tap on the Screen Mirroring Button
Tap the screen mirroring button in the app. If you are on iOS 11, the button should appear in the control center of your device. If it doesn’t appear, then:

I just purchased and installed istreamer. When I turn on the channel on my TV, I get the message “mirror your mac, iphone ……. to your roku. On my iphone, I’m seeing a screen with message “Everything on your screen, including…… In a box at the top there is a red dot in a red circle and the dot is blinking on and off. Below it says “Screen broadcast”..
I can’t seem to get any further.
Hi. Open the app and tap the cast icon at the top. Connect to your TV. Then tap the mirroring button (dot). Tap on “Start Broadcast.” After a while your iPhone will start mirroring on your TV.
this isn’t working for my iphone – i’ve tried all the apps available for Roku including this one and none of them are working
Hi. Please share the details of the issue you are facing. Are you able to connect to your TV from the Roku mirror app? Does you TV show up in the list of Discovered devices?
I had to buy both the istreamer mirror for Roku app AND the AV Roku mirror to get the sound. I have a cheap insignia Roku tv and the AV Roku mirror. I couldn’t get one app to work without the other lol. My tv didn’t show up in the list of discovered devices on the istreamer app until i purchased the AV app.
Hi. What is the model of your Roku TV?
I too had to download both apps to get it to broadcast. But, still no sound on my TV
I can’t seem to get the sound to play in my tv only on the iPhone? Any suggestions?
Hi. To get sound on your TV please make sure you are on Standard or Advanced mode. The Live mode does not support sound. Also make sure that sound on your TV is turned up. Thanks.
Hi. Standard or Advanced mode on what? The streamer app? I don’t see that option. ??? I’m having the same issue with not able to get sound on my TV. Yes, the volume is turned up. Thanks for your help.
My reply from earlier today disappeared. ??? I’m trying to understand where the option to choose Standard or Advanced mode is found. On the TV, Roku or the app on my iPhone?
Thank You!
Doesn’t work. Can’t change sound to “on” because the only way to get to the sound button the app thinks I’m mirroring. Disconnected from device – still can’t move the button. Do I have to pay for the Oro version to get sound? I don’t mind doing that – you should be earning revenue for the app, but i don’t want to buy it if it still isn’t going to work.
Yes it’s available in the pro version. Please stop mirroring to enable sound. Tap the red mirroring button and select “Stop Broadcast”
I can’t seem to get this app to work with my iPhone XR on my sons Onn Roku tv. I downloaded the app on both devices. And when I turn on advanced settings it just glitches in and out but never mirrors the screen
Hi, are you using an in-built Roku TV? Try changing the mode from Advanced to “Live” or “Standard” and then try mirroring again from the app. Thanks.
Where do I find the settings for Standard or Advanced mode? Is that on my iPhone, my TV or the Roku?
It’s on the iPhone app. Open the app > screen mirror > mode > select Live Standard or Advanced
I have 4K Roku and the screen casting is very grainy you can’t even read the picture.
Hi. For a better quality of screen mirroring please change your mode to Standard and set the bitrate at “2mbps” and resolution at “Full”. Thanks.
2 things… the “Live” setting is super grainy. Switching to Standard or Advanced gives me extreme lag (10-15 seconds).
Also, there’s a note saying that everything I’m broadcasting will be recorded. Where does it record to? I didn’t see it in photos/video on my iPhone.
Hi. To get a better quality of screen mirroring you can try Standard mode. Try using bitrate 1 mbps and resolution 720 for better performance with less lag. Secondly please be assured that nothing is actually recorded even though the message states that. The message is a default notification from Apple that alerts you when an app is attempting to start mirroring from your device.
So apparently you have to pay for pro Roku mirror to get sound on standard or advanced
Correct. Sound is available in the Pro version.
I am trying to get my iPad to pair with my RoKu TV and I’ve made sure to have both on the same WiFi connection but the App isn’t making contact or something because it just says searching
Hi. Can you please quit the app and relaunch it? Then check if your TV shows up. Also make sure you have installed the “Screen Cast” channel on your Roku TV.
I have the same problem and followed your instructions with no success…..
Hi, Mike. Thank you for reporting this issue. We are looking into it.
I paid for the pro and I’m able to get a great picture. I cannot get sound. Sound is up on my phone and TV.
Please try restarting your Roku TV/Device. After restarting try mirroring again from the app. Thanks.
Hi The tv screen is grainy, Where do i found the standard mode. Tks
Open the app > screen mirror > mode > select standard
I’ve been using Mirror For Roku successfully for a few months. Suddenly this morning my screencast is on the right half of my TV instead of centered. Also when I lay the iPhone horizontal I used to get the full image on the TV. Now it only shows about half of what’s on my phone but fills the entire TV screen. I’ve changed nothing to my knowledge and there have been no updates. What gives?
Hi. Can you please let me know the model of your Roku device, iPhone model, iOS version and app version. Also some solutions you can try are, try updating the Screen Cast channel on your Roku and make sure its updated to 1.6, also make sure your app is updated to the latest version 1.6.2
I actually deleted the channels, uninstalled the app and reinstalled everything yesterday when this occurred. Below are version and model:
Roku: 6.3.5.3
Mirror For ROKU: 1.6.2
iPhone 6
IOS 12.4.5
Channels:
Streamer: 1.3 build 0
ROKU Streaming Player 1.0 build 38
Oh and it’s the ROKU Streaming Stick
Please update the Screen Cast channel on your Roku to the latest version 1.7 and check. The issue should be fixed. Thanks.
Thanks I was at 1.6 on Screen Cast and going to 1.7 seemed to fix it. I appreciate the help.
I just downloaded this app on two iPhone 8s (hers and my own) , changed the Settings to include SCREEN MIRRORING on the swipe up menus and both are up and working in just a few minutes time each. Now we can stream my cousin Guy Davis’ COFFEE with KOKOMO live music podcast on FB every morning at 10 EST, anything on YOUTUBE with full sound from our phones instead of having to fire up one of our MacBooks to mirror streaming content.
BOTH TIMES I had to repeatedly fight off the ChromeCast app which intrudes full screen while either downloading or installing this iStreamer ROKU Mirroring app. Do not fall for this aggressive marketing: the Chrome version makes you pay $6.99 for audio streaming otherwise all you get is a silent movie…
I just read about 9 posts below my first comment:
All I can add is that both of our iPhone 8s worked perfectly right off. We have a 55″ Vizio smart TV, built in ROKU along with a bunch of apps we don’t or rarely use. We have full sound and brilliant sharp video resolution with no issues whatsoever and this is with audio from TV only. HOWEVER:
I built a SONOS home theater using two old bookend speakers I had for years and a Sonos AMP and CONTROL THAT I GOT FOR $40 at an estate sale three months ago, good deal, right? That is installed as is a parallel YAMAHA Y108 Soundbar from COSTCO : both have about the same great sound quality: at the touch of a button I can use either one for either frontal audio or a spread theater effect when we stream movies or music video content from YouTube. .
Do yourself a favor reread the iStreamer instructions above these comments- its all you need to know- and make sure of two things:
(a) you own a Smart TV with ROKU buit in that is connected to your router with the same network on both iPhone and TV
(B) that if your TV ain’t that smart you have a ROKU Box hooked to your router through which you mirror to your not so smart TV. You will have to add a channel to your ROKU which is your iPhone Mirror .
I have two old ROKU boxes in a spare parts tub in my music studio I have not used in a long while. One TV here is that smart Vizio , the guest room TV is a not so smart old SONY Bravia with an Amazon Firestick which has built in ROKU ….so both will accept streaming from either iPhone, a cheap workaround if your TV is not so, etc…
I get sound but no picture. I paid for the upgraded version but can’t get it to work.
Hi. Which app are you mirroring? Please note that some streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV and others have a restriction that prevents screen mirroring. This could be why you aren’t getting a picture when you mirror your screen.
I too have that issue. I have a TCL 40” tv with Roku built in. I paid for the pro version of the mirror app because HBO Max isn’t available through Roku. I get sound but no picture.
Hi. Some apps have a restriction that prevents screen mirroring. Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ also have this restriction.
Thank you! This helped me a bunch!
How come I can’t connect my music? It’s not showing any of my songs
Are you trying to cast Apple music from the app? If so, here’s how to do that:

Hi, can this be used to mirror hbo max to Roku with iOS? I’m able to mirror but when I push play on hbo max content it won’t appear on the tv.
Hi. Some apps have a restriction that prevents screen mirroring. Apps like Netflix, HBO, Amazon etc. have this restriction.
Will this app mirror to hbo Max? If so could you please share instructions?
HBO does not allow mirroring due to a restriction. You will be able to mirror most apps, games etc.
Everything worked until I tried playing videos. The video played on my phone but not on my TV.
Hi. Where are you playing the videos from? Is it from a streaming app like Netflix or Amazon?
Hello, I upgraded to Pro, and I still cannot get sound when I mirror my screen. I press screen mirror and it immediately starts mirroring (not broadcasting) and when I try to change the mode it says I can’t do that while mirroring. And when I try to turn on the sound it says to stop mirroring. But I cannot figure out any way to stop mirroring. I’ve disconnected the Roku. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the iPhone apps and the Roku apps. Please help!!
Please try reinstalling the app.
We just paid for the pro app. Installed both on the tcl/roku tv and iPhone 6. Set the broadcast at 1mbps and resolution at 720. We have Audio and no video. Ran a speed test and have 17 Mbps inbound to the home network. The app now disconnects and reconnects by itself. Then starts playing audio only. Now it has frozen. The phone now won’t allow us to close either app.
Try reducing the bitrate and the resolution further. Then try mirroring again. Use Standard mode
Just for clarity the $17.99 Lifetime is a ONE time fee??
Yes, it is.
